Draymond Green is excited to be competing against a youthful Victor Wembanyama and says he will be retiring once Wemby reaches his full potential. Draymond Green forewarned the rest of the NBA about the man Wemby will become when he retires in a few years.

It’s not asking too much of Green to act appropriately for his age, think through how his decisions will affect his fellow players, and make wise choices. That makes it very difficult to defend him in that situation.

“He’s a very very very very very special talent. I’m happy I got the opportunity to play against him now because they’ll have to deal with him a lot later and I won’t be in the league anymore, so that’s good for me.” Draymond Green during a press conference.

Tonight’s game between the Warriors and Spurs ended with Golden State winning 117-113. In the close defeat, Wembanyama had 23 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks, as per the NBA Website. At the end of the game, Draymond finished with a season-high 21 points, 6 rebounds, eleven assists, and 6 steals.

In addition to supporting his team’s on-court defense, Green has had to continually uphold his reputation, which is a more difficult undertaking than the previous one. Only one side of the issue needs to be considered, and it could be the more crucial one. The other side is that he needs to maintain his level of play.

Wembanyama is an unprecedented rookie who had one of the best rookie campaigns in NBA history and should easily win Rookie of the Year. Wembanyama’s 7’4″ stature and tendency to instill dread, uncertainty, and reluctance in opponents who reach the paint made an already formidable team—one that shoots the fewest baskets in the league—much more formidable.

After a set-up on Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green rushes to the hoop after he recovers the ball as the Spurs launch a full-court push to begin the half. Wembanyama is in the contest and nearly blocks the shot, but Green manages to grab the ball on the glass and cause a turnover.

When it comes to one particular defensive technique, Green may be the greatest in the league: poking the ball away from a player who is driving. Draymond Green and the Warriors will look forward to winning more games to claim the playoff spot.
