At 36 years old, Stephen Curry appears to be at the early stages of his NBA stardom, but he’s already contemplating his longevity in the league. In an interview with the Charlotte Observer, Curry expressed his desire to match his father Dell Curry’s 16-year career in the NBA.
Although 16 seasons may seem like a significant commitment, Curry, who has completed eight seasons so far, sees himself as halfway there. Reflecting on his initial goal upon entering the league, Curry remarked, “When I came into the league, that’s the only thing I did say — I want to play 16 years just because my dad did.” He acknowledges the dedication and effort required to sustain his level of play but believes playing another eight years at a similar level would be a solid achievement.
Dell Curry, who retired as the leading scorer for the Charlotte Hornets, remains active in the NBA as a television analyst for the Hornets’ broadcasts.
Considering Curry’s recent five-year, $201 million contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, it’s likely that at least five of those remaining seasons will be spent with the team where he has made his mark.
