Los Angeles Lakers star big man Anthony Davis will miss Tuesday’s matchup against the Golden State Warriors due to a headache and nausea, the team announced.

Chris Haynes of TNT Sports first reported the news.

Despite those symptoms, Davis is not currently dealing with a concussion:

Darvin Ham on Anthony Davis: “He showed up (to the arena) trying to play but he just couldn’t get over the headache and the nausea”

Davis, 31, has put together one of his best seasons in the 2023-24 campaign, averaging 24.5 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.4 blocks and 1.2 steals per game, shooting 55.4 percent from the field and 28 percent from three.

He’s also managed to largely stay healthy, appearing in 74 games, the most he’s played since the 2017-18 campaign (75 contests). And the Lakers have needed him.

“He’s extremely valuable,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said of Davis on Sunday after he left the team’s 127-117 loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves with an eye injury. “Everyone around here knows that. Everything he brings on both sides of the ball, it’s tough.”

There was concern that the eye injury might end up being serious, to the point that Davis needed to visit a specialist due to having vision issues and his eyelid swelling shut.

“I just couldn’t see,” he told reporters at the time. “The corneal abrasion was actually right in the middle of my eye. It wasn’t like off to the side. So anytime I looked it was blurry. My eye was swollen. I thought my eye was like, [torn] open. But it wasn’t. It kept watering. It just felt like sand was in my eye.”

That he’ll miss another game is hardly ideal as the team tries to secure an automatic playoff berth rather than having to yet again fight through the Play-In Tournament. Look for Jaxson Hayes to step into the starting lineup while he’s out.
