Klay Thompson sees potential for the Warriors to replicate the playoff success of the Miami Heat.

Last season, the Miami Heat navigated the play-in tournament before surging through the Eastern Conference and making the NBA Finals. They fell short against the Denver Nuggets, losing in five games. However, that run was the story of the postseason. Now, Klay Thompson is using Miami’s success from last season as a motivating factor for himself and the Golden State Warriors roster.

When speaking to the media following the Warriors win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday (April 9), Thompson noted how he believes Golden State is capable of embarking on a similar run to what Miami had last season.

“We take a lot of motivation from the Heat last year who had to play two play-in games and made it all the way to the Finals,” Thompson said. “I think we’re capable of a run like that. We obviously can’t look ahead, but whatever happens, we will be ready. We know that it can be done. There is no task too tall for us.”

Golden State has four future Hall of Famers on their roster. Among those aging stars is Stephen Curry, arguably the greatest shooter of all-time and a top-five point guard in league history.

With Curry on the roster and Chris Paul, Draymond Green and Thompson all finding the best version of themselves in recent weeks, it’s not outlandish to envision a mind-boggling run from Steve Kerr’s team. It won’t be easy, but the Warriors have been proving it’s too soon to count them out with their production over their last 15-20 games.
