Stephen Curry reportedly receives $75 million in Under Armour stock under new deal

Stephen Curry’s earnings for this season with the Golden State Warriors amount to $48 million in salary, but that’s not the extent of his financial gains this year. As part of his recent long-term agreement with Under Armour, Curry is set to receive a substantial $75 million grant in the form of Under Armour stock, as reported by Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic.

This contract, anticipated to span the remainder of Curry’s basketball career, holds the potential to evolve into a lifetime deal akin to LeBron James’ partnership with Nike, contingent upon meeting specific criteria. The disclosed stock award comprises 8,823,530 restricted stock units and is outlined in a public SEC filing. It is scheduled to vest in two stages, in 2029 and 2034, contingent upon Curry’s continued association with Under Armour.

The stock grant mentioned doesn’t encompass the direct payments likely to be received annually by Curry from Under Armour, which are anticipated to be substantial, potentially reaching eight figures. This entire agreement is in addition to Curry’s existing four-year, $215 million contract with the Warriors and his diverse portfolio of business ventures, although his FTX deal has recently faced challenges. Moreover, Ayesha Curry, his wife, has her own successful ventures, including food businesses, a cookbook, and appearances on the Food Network.

At Under Armour, Curry will assume the role of president of the company’s Curry Brand, a significant promotion. Since joining Under Armour in 2013, two years prior to his first MVP season and NBA championship, Curry has been a pivotal figure in the company’s roster of sponsored athletes. It’s evident that Under Armour is committed to retaining Curry, recognizing him as their marquee athlete.
