The Warriors are contemplating the idea of slotting Moses Moody into the starting lineup as a potential replacement for Klay Thompson

As Klay Thompson approaches unrestricted free agency, there’s a strong likelihood that the Golden State Warriors will retain the experienced sharpshooter. Earlier this season, Thompson briefly came off the bench as Coach Steve Kerr experimented with different lineup configurations.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, there’s a chance that Thompson could continue in a bench role more regularly, potentially allowing Moses Moody to step into the starting lineup. Moody has patiently awaited an expanded role within the Warriors’ rotation over the past few seasons.

Coach Kerr noted, “There’s a possibility that an existing player steps up. We’ve seen instances where we’ve started Brandin Podziemski instead of Klay. So there’s flexibility there. Perhaps Moses could transition to the starting lineup. He’s a talented player with considerable room for growth. He needs to improve his decision-making on both offense and defense, make quicker decisions, defensive rotations, and recognize patterns.”

The Warriors have a cadre of promising young talents poised for increased responsibilities, with Moody being one of them. Given Thompson’s ability to contribute effectively off the bench, Kerr might consider making that role permanent, provided Thompson remains with the team.

At just 21 years old, Moody could excel in a more substantial role for Golden State, especially alongside seasoned veterans. Whether Thompson would be amenable to returning in a bench capacity remains uncertain.
