In December 2021, when Stephen Curry broke the all-time three-point record, Curry Brand announced its commitment to constructing safe recreational areas for youth in three specific locations: 1) the greater Charlotte area, where Stephen’s basketball journey began, 2) the Bay Area, which has been Stephen and his family’s home during his NBA career, and 3) New York City, where Stephen achieved the record-breaking feat at Madison Square Garden.
After deliberation, Stephen and Curry Brand identified DREAM Charter Schools as the ideal location for court refurbishment in New York City. The decision was influenced by Curry Brand’s longstanding collaboration with the school through key partners such as Good Sports and Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA). DREAM Charter School has received equipment and gear donations from Good Sports, and all of its coaches have undergone or will undergo PCA training, empowering them to be positive mentors and role models.
The renovation of Curry Court 012 at DREAM Charter School East Harlem signifies the fulfillment of the joint commitment, with Curry Brand having previously completed Curry Court 009 at the Ada Jenkins Center in Charlotte in 2022 and Curry Court 010 at the Oakland Academy of Knowledge in 2023.
This initiative reflects Curry Brand’s comprehensive approach to community impact, not only providing a new and safe space for recreation but also ensuring access to proper equipment and fostering positive coaching and mentorship opportunities.
Curry Brand, under the umbrella of Under Armour, recently completed its twelfth court refurbishment at DREAM Charter School in East Harlem, New York City, aligning with its objective to impact 100,000 young individuals and revamp 20 safe recreational spaces by 2025. The unveiling of Curry Court 012 coincided with Stephen Curry’s visit to New York City during the season, enabling him to participate in the special occasion and surprise 50 middle school students from DREAM who attended the event.
To inaugurate the new court, Curry Brand collaborated with the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) to organize a basketball clinic for the students. Throughout the afternoon, the students engaged in enjoyable drills and skill-building activities while sporting new Under Armour apparel and Curry Brand sneakers, specifically the Bruce Lee Curry 11’s, all of which were generously donated for the occasion.
