Devin Booker Sparks Festive Cheer at ‘Light Camera Discover’ Christmas with $100K Grant from Starting 5 Initiative

Devin Booker made Christmas even bigger, better and brighter for “Lights Camera Discover” Monday night.

Before the Suns faced Spurs at Footprint Center, Booker surprised students in program with an $100,000 grant as part of his Starting 5 Initiative as well as electronic equipment.

“Oh wooooow,” said program executive director Kema Charles in reaction to Booker’s presentation.

“Lights Camera Discover” is a 501c3 nonprofit organization “devoted to developing strategies to bring about positive skill sets of our youth” in Phoenix.

“Our mission statement is simple, turning imaginations into opportunity.”

As the students sat in the arena’s media interview room, Booker walked in and started a Q&A session with the students that lasted about three minutes.

Some students asked questions.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - NOVEMBER 27: Devin Booker #1 of the Phoenix Suns celebrates after he drew the foul against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center on November 27, 2021 in New York City.

After answering questions, Booker said, “I have a Christmas present for everybody.”

It was then the electronic equipment was revealed as the items were sitting to the side on the interview platform.

Then Booker pulled out the large cardboard $100,000 check from underneath the table covered with a black cloth.

Oh wow.

The students were in stuck in between surprised and stunned, but were taking pictures and videos of Booker holding the check.

Booker is cool with that has he has a love for photography.

Still, he wanted them to feel the moment.

“You guys touch it,” said Booker as he came down from the platform holding the check. “Ya’ll taking pictures of it. You got to feel it.”

The students went up to him and then provided Booker a “Lights Camera Discover” t-shirt as their Christmas gift to the Suns leading scorer.

“It’s some good material, too,” Booker said as he held it up. “I like that.”

Booker joined the program’s students and Charles in taking, what else, pictures and video of the moment.

Booker left them with words that appear will come to fruition.

“Got to get back on the streak,” Booker said. “You guys brought some good luck for us.”
