For the first time in two decades, the NBA’s postseason moved to its second round without any of its three biggest superstars – LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.
LeBron’s Lakers and KD’s Suns were ousted in the first round of the playoffs by the Nuggets and Timberwolves, respectively, while Steph’s Warriors didn’t even make the cut for this year’s postseason.
While many were surprised at not seeing the Lakers, Suns, or Warriors in the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, former Lakers guard Nick Young says the writing is on the wall.
“The Lakers were just trash man,” said Young on ‘Vlad TV.’ “Like the Warriors and Lakers was like, we knew they was fighting on one leg.”
According to ‘Swaggy P,’ perhaps the only thing that surprised him was Phoenix getting swept in Round 1 because he thought KD would be the key in the series. However, Young said it was obvious that the Lakers and Warriors were going nowhere this season.
Nick mentioned Andrew Wiggins’s disappearance as a significant factor in the Dubs’ decline, while Steve Kerry’s opting to let Klay come off the bench was a sign that they were still trying to figure things out in midseason. On the other hand, ‘Swaggy P’ says that the Purple and Gold ran into the Nuggets and had no chance, especially with LBJ not getting consistent help from his supporting cast.
“I think all three of them need to come together,” suggested Young. “That’d be good. I don’t see him ( Curry) leaving the Warriors so that’s why it could be in Oakland, in the Bay. But they are playing on the USA Team together this year…One last hurrah.”
KG also likes the ‘Last hurrah’ idea
Young’s suggestion that LeBron, KD, and Steph play together next season may sound wild, but he’s not the first former player to say that. Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett recently brought up that idea on the ‘Ticket & The Truth’ podcast.
“If I’m Bron, I’m rolled up, already lit. I got the five lines in front of me. I got the phones out right here. I got KD on one line, I got CP on one line. I got Steph on one line. And we catching up. This is the first time I think that all the old superstars can actually be on one team and go out with a hurrah,” said KG.
Watching the old stars together on one team trying to win one last ring against the league’s young guns would be a fascinating storyline for next season. We’ve seen crazier things happen before in the NBA, but the idea of Bron, Steph, and KD teaming up is more of a dream than a possibility.
